“I use Archistar because it’s quick and streamlines my work. Instead of going through countless sites, I can filter which ones I actually need. What used to take me hours to do now only takes me about 15-20 minutes in total.”
“I’ve worked for the Australian branch of ME Developments for a little over a year. We specialise in developing boutique apartments in high-end locations. In terms of numbers, our developments range from 12 apartments up to 30 or 40. I’d estimate that we complete one or two of these projects per year.
Before Archistar, we did a lot of manual work. Once we found a site, we had to go to the local council’s website to research it. Unfortunately, they’re all different – there’s no uniformity there. So, you’ve got to stumble through, which takes a lot of time.
From there, I’d go to CoreLogic to research pricing for the area. I’d then head to Cordell to see what other projects are in the area. This involved creating reports and getting a general breakdown of the area.”
What has changed since you started using Achistar?
“I use Archistar because it’s quick and streamlines my work. Instead of going through countless sites, I can filter which ones I actually need. I can develop a fair idea of how a project will stack up using your program and then add our own feasibility into the process. What used to take me hours to do now only takes me about 15-20 minutes total.
Beyond this, one of the big advantages of using Archistar is that I can see on a map how close buildings actually are. I can see what’s been sold and what’s in the process of getting sold. Not only that, I can also easily compare these buildings to the development we’re considering.
It’s much easier and, in many cases, you don’t even have to go to the site itself because Archistar has all of the information.
But perhaps the biggest timesaver for me is the layering tools. For example, the zoning layer helps me instantly see if a development idea is actually feasible. I also leverage several add-ons with that, including ones for Cordell, CoreLogic, and NearMaps.
The new measurement tool is also helpful, especially when we’re dealing with town planners and it’s hard to get hold of them. I’m able to grab measurements, access local council guidelines for setbacks and height restrictions, and model up a little something to get sizes. I also appreciate that the platform offers links to the relevant council websites so I don’t have to research them myself.”
What are the key benefits you have experienced with Archistar?
“It’s saved me hours of work. The tool has compressed one or two hours of work into a few minutes. It’s also put a lot of the things that I would use together in a convenient platform, which I’ve found very helpful.
But if I had to wave a magic wand and only keep one thing from the platform, it would be the zoning maps. Being able to see the permitted use for a site saves me the most time as it saves me from having to go online to try to research everything.”
